Why does AMB strongly suggest not to use an old or "trusty" tape measure?

Answer:

We have found that old tape measures, or "trusty" tape measures, will invariably stretch over time with use, and therefore give measurements that are inaccurate. We were surprised to learn this but it actually happens more often than not. They often stretch about a quarter inch.

Believe it or not, we have had more than one actual Savile Row tailor give us measurements that were too short because they trusted their old tape measures. A 1/4" or 5-6 mm may seem insignificant IRL, but for our bracelets that amount can mean the difference between two AMB-001 sizes.

If you must use a tape measure, please make sure to use a brand new or near-new one, and ask a second person to help you to measure without any slack and without any tension on the flesh. Better yet, try and use our proven "Masking Tape Method" as it gives better results for our sizing purposes.
